This morning I woke up to a cold nose against mine. Max was checking to see if I was awake under all of my covers.
I could hear Ken talking to someone in the other room and I quickly realized that he was on the phone. I could hear him laughing and talking kind of loudly. I thought perhaps he was on the phone with sister in London. It was about 8am here in Florida so it would be early afternoon in London....yes I was certain he was talking to his sister. I couldn't make out what he was saying but it sounded like a friendly conversation filled with laughter. I couldn't wait to hear all of the latest family gossip.
The smell of freshly brewed Hazelnut Creme coffee made me want to get up. I could tell Ken had finished his phone call and as I got dressed he came running into the bedroom....
"Honey, do you need to be cheered up?"
I glared at him. Could he not tell I was just getting out of bed, what was he insinuating? That I woke up in a bad mood? I hadn't even said a word to him yet. "NO I don't need cheered up...I need coffee"
"OH honey, I've found a great new way to get cheered up, I've tried it several times and it works every time"
"Does this story somehow involve coffee or end with you brining me a cup of coffee?"
"No, its like happy phone calls, its like cheering up, its like therapy...for FREE"
I glared at him, wondering how on earth he could be so freakin happy at 8am with me sitting here in desperate need of coffee.
"Were you talking to your sister, getting all the gossip from home is that why you're so happy?"
"What?"
"What? What? What are you babbling about being happy for?"
"Oh Honey, I think you need to call the happy line, you sound a bit cranky"
"What are you talking about??" Was he trying to piss me off at 8am on a Saturday morning?
"Its T-Mobile"
"The cell phone company?"
"Yes, its like free happy, you can't possibly hang up the phone and be unhappy after talking to them...they are just so damn cheerful and helpful"
"Thats because you called to pay the bill, of course they are happy, you are giving them money so technically its not free"
"We have to pay a cell phone bill anyhow so its like a bonus plan. I've called them a few times and they are always this cheerful, you try it." He thrust the cell phone into my hand
"I'm not going to call them! What do you want me to say to T-Mobile, hello please make me feel happy? They are going to think we're freaking nutso"
"Just ask them a question about our minutes, go on, do it, just try it"
"Will you make me a cuppa coffee if I say yes?"
So I called T-Mobile and asked about increasing our minutes because it was something we needed to do anyhow and you know something, he was right! I don't know what they are pumping into the air or putting in the water there but those people are HAPPY and CHEERFUL!! I hung up the phone in amazement and feeling quite happy.
Later in the day today I was feeling really tired and run down after a morning of shopping, yard work and more shopping. I guess I must have said something snippy to him when he suggested we go to yet another store and he said..."You really should call T-Mobile and cheer up"
I just glared at him. I can tell this is going to be a running joke for quite a while.
This has not been a paid promotional for T-Mobile. I received no compensation whatsoever for this post....just free happy therapy from their customer care department.
:::::EDITED::::::
After reading in the comments about Lora's terrible experience with T-Mobile and remembering that our experience with them years ago wasn't this fabulous, I did some investigation and found their new happy attitude is a recent thing. This article, Behind T-Mobiles Customer Service Success on CNN Money gives credit to Sue Nokes who sounds like a woman who really knows how to inspire a department!

I love when you call a company and they are cheerful and happy. It just makes you feel good. There's nothing worse than dealing with a customer service rep that is in a bad mood. I guess I should've called T-Mobile last night! haha ha ha
Oh.. and I responded to your comment on my page. I'll have to tell the stories one by one so I don't bore everyone to death! Well, It's off to bed with my little baby. We both have cabin fever and are dying for a good ol' fashioned walk. Now that the days are getting longer, that's a possibility! I did however take her to petsmart for a small dosage of doggy! Now that is something that will cheer anyone up!
They sound great! Nothing worse than rude customer service reps!
...still...
too much happiness first thing in the morning before coffee is...too much!
That is hilarious! Something that makes you glad you're giving that company your business!
Thanks for your comments on my blog - I look forward to getting to know you better!
I also find that hilarious! And a refreshing change from most companies! I delay phoning certain places for days, just because I can't face the frustration.
So now you know...
Glad to hear T-Mobile customer service is as good in the US as it is over here in Germany. ;) Never thought of using them for happy therapy, though :D
They certainly sound more cheerful than my cell phone company!
I usually get up an hour and a half earlier than my kids on a weekday...that way I have time for 2 cups of coffee and can be pleasant to them by the time they wake up!!
We are with T Mobile also and I AGREE wih you!! T Mobile people are so lovely. They ask if they can call you by your first name and make conversation with you, they are just really nice folk.
They have definitely got it RIGHT!!
Doesn't it make a difference to speak to lovely people, not like receptionists at doctors surgery's...BOY! Are they nasty people. They need the same customer service training as T Mobile!!
"Hello T Mobile, make me happy"
"Hello Drs surgery, can we make you healthy and happy"
Hugs x
It sure sounded like a free promotion for t-mobile, this post. LOL.
I'm also with T-mobile in the UK but I somehow doubt that they are very friendly, let alone would cheer me up.
Glad you had a good experience with them though. :)
Wow - your T-Moblie people must not take the same "cheerful course" that ours do here in NY.
We had major issues with the company when we purchased service from them several years ago. We wanted to make sure that we would be able to use the phones at our cottage also, so we could cancel the land phone there. They checked and said of course! So we cancelled the land phone there (it was winter and we didn't get down to the lake till spring) to find out that our cell phones did NOT get service there. When we tried to cancel the contract they were VERY rude. Said it was an oops on their part (the service rep was wrong) but that a contract is a contract and it would be $200 to cancel it before 2 years were up. I even wrote to the big wigs - tried EVERYTHING and they were still rude and wouldn't help us. So we were stuck with 2 cell phones that didn't work at the lake - had to pay to hook the land phone back up and wait out the two year contract.
Sorry. I have to vent everytime I hear the words T-Mobile.
WOW - good customers service, hard to imagine these days!! LOL
thank you for the badges on the challenge, incase you don't read my blog where I thanked you I love the new one I just put up and can't wait to be able to get the next one, it's my new found inspiration!!
Maddds
Lora - I'm not surprised you had bad CS with T-Mobile, we actually had them for about a year when we first moved back to the States and I don't recall them being so fabulous back then. We then spent four hellish years with Sprint, I couldn't talk to them without my blood pressure going through the roof, it took 8 hours of phone conversation and 3 months to get charges removed from our bill that weren't ours. Our bill always had charges that didn't belong but sometimes the $11 just wasn't worth making myself sick over.
Out of curiosity, I did a search on TMobile customer service and it seems in 2007 they hired someone who turned their customer service department around and boosted the morale of the CS staff, it really seems to have worked.I've actually edited my original post to include a link to the article. This woman sounds like someone I'd love to meet!
that is really funny! it is rare that talking to customer service makes people happy vs irritated! usually I am irritated after talking to someone not happier!
What a funny story! Reading it actually made ME feel happy...you are such a good writer. I too need that coffee first thing in the morning!
Wow. what an experience! Too funny about your hub suggesting you call 'cuz you're in a funky mood....gotta love a man who is looking out for you, eh? :)
Wow ... ATT needs to jump on board. I avoid calling them like the plague! T-Mobile is almost too nice sometimes, I have a student who has not paid his bill in months and they just leave him a friendly voicemail, reminding him that his payment is overdue.
Wow, I wish that TELUS was like that here in Canada. They don't make anyone happy. I find myself getting off the phone very disgruntled and angry!
I know I get plenty of fiber for sure.. they actually dubbed me the apple lady at the grocery store! I eat like 3 a day.. Well, I did. I am craving an apple so bad it's not even funny. I love Shredded Wheat cereal, and honey bunches of oats. I am always looking for fiber in everything I buy. I love Ronzoni healthy harvest egg noodles, and the Muellers whole wheat pasta. I wish it was so easy many many years ago. I know about 10 years ago they didn't have all these fabulous options out there.
That actually made me laugh out loud.
And yes, they weren't always so pleasing to speak to. We quit using them partly because of crappy customer service.
