Smelly New Neighbors

New people have moved into the house diagonally behind us. I don’t know much about them so here are the facts so far: two preteens, mother and father, they listen to Salsa music but it’s so faint I have to be in the back corner of the yard to hear it…oh yeah they are smelly people. VERY SMELLY!

Over the weekend we worked on the back yard, which is still a complete mess by the way, and I was finally able to confirm where the smell was coming from.

I always workout in the family room at the back of the house because my computer is there and there is room for me to use the stability ball, hand weights and enough space for some basic floor work. It’s also right in front of my computer so I can play the DVD’s without trying to figure out the other DVD player (that’s a whole other post) Anyhow, the weather has been lovely and I’ve left the back patio doors open for a cool breeze and I’ve noticed the smell…could it be…pancakes? Wow, its pancakes, I wonder if they are topping them with fresh strawberries and whipped cream? So now I’m working out and not thinking about my workout, I’m thinking about PANCAKES.

Saturday we were in the back yard hard at work and it happened again…SAUSAGE and pancakes. Clearly there is some supernatural force at work here directing wind from their kitchen straight down into my back yard, patio and family room. Could the fat gods still be conspiring against me? Never fear, I'm immune to their curses and time is on my side...summer is nearly here and soon my windows and doors will be closed and my air will be recycled, filtered air for four long months.

Sunday morning came and as 9am neared I remarked to Ken we hadn’t had been treated to a smellfest virtual breakfast. I told him to let me know when he was ready for breakfast and I’d go in and make it. He said he wasn’t quite ready so we kept working. Around 9:30 the smell of bacon started to float down the hill and into our patio. Ken said “Do you smell that…its BACON…and the REAL STUFF not that turkey bacon you make me eat….oh smells sooo good!!” I laughed and kept working but I was thinking that it did smell really good. After a few minutes he said “Are you going to make breakfast now or do I have to jump over the fence and introduce myself to the neighbors”

Sounds like you have Latin neighbors which means lots of food! :) I grew up in a Latin household and my families rule is that you should always have enough food in case someone happens to stop by LOL. My mom still cooks for like 10 when there is only 3 of them in the house, and even when there were 5 in the house she cooked for 10.
Good luck!

I just met the wife! I was talking to my neighbor who lives behind the new family and the wife was in the back yard and came over to the fence and introduced herself. They are from the Caribbean, she seems very sweet.

Seems like you're being tested:)

thats hilarious! I would be in trouble if I smelled donuts all of the time, let alone pancakes.

My neighbors are always making chili.

LOL this is definately not what I was thinking you meant by "smelly neighbors" but I guess as hard as it is - I would much rather have it be pleasant smells like this rather than other more "un"pleasant smells! LOL

Oy! Those people! AHHHH that would be so hard. I always get cravings from smelling people cooking things like that (and burgers that is another worst smell which makes me eat). Hang in there !!! Be strong and you are right - keep the A/C months coming in mind! (I did laugh pretty darn hard though!)

I agree with Sunny: I thought you were going to say they had a very UNpleasant smell! I'm glad it's only pancakes! And that's great that you met the wife.

There was a whole year I didn't eat any bread but every time we went to my favorite Italian restaurant and they brough over the basket of hot rolls I would break it open and inhale the scent of the fresh baked bread. It was torture but it was heavenly at the same time. Sometimes just the smell is enough to satisfy the cravings.

Be strong and resist the urge to fry up the real bacon :)

lol! that reminds me of the gym I used to go to in college. there was a popcorn maker in the entryway to the gym (I know, of all places!). When I took the spinning class there, it smelled like popcorn everytime. I would get done working out and gone home and eat popcorn. not a good thing at all!

I worked out at Curves for a while and when they put in a Pizza place next door, I stopped going in the afternoon. If I wasn't there by 10am, I couldn't go because the pizza smell was too tempting.

What a coincidence. I've been having this pancakes on the brain for a week, so I finally made some whole wheat ones this weekend. It was so delicious!

Yesterday when we got home someone was having a barbeque and it smelled sooooo good! I wonder what your previous neighbours ate?

LOL!! I love this post. How funny. I have neighbors who grill outside all summer long. Every evening I smell steaks...onions...burgers...ribs... omg I think I will die.
