Friday Favorites

I had so much great feedback from last Friday's favorites I thought I'd make it a regular thing for a few Friday's. If you have any favorites, please share them in comments or email me and I'll add them!

Davinci Gourmet Syrups are perfect for making your own gourmet flavored coffees and teas. They are sugar free, sweetened with Splenda and they come in a wide variety of flavors. I keep caramel, French vanilla and hazelnut in stock year round and for a little bit of holiday spice, I've found gingerbread flavor...yummy!

I thought it would be fun to share a favorite blogger every week too. I know I'll never have a shortage of inspirational people so this might just turn into an every week thing for forever! This week I found some wonderful before and after photos I wanted to share with you. Jan over at Cruisin to Lose is such a sweetheart who always has a kind word for everyone. WOW!! She has done such a phenomenal job. Stop by and check her out!

Maybe because I grew up with a Dad who had been all over the world and told me stories about the places he saw, but the globe became a favorite of mine as a young child. Google Earth is so much fun to play with. If you haven't played with this program its definitely worth checking out. You can look at the whole world from satellite images and zoom in on different places. Its like flying around the world! I've zoomed in on my childhood home, our home in England as well as our new home here in Florida. I've flown over Fiji and Tahiti and looked at the statues on Easter Island.

MyShape.com
is a recent find. It was featured on one of our local news channels and they had several women try it out. One was petite, another size 6 and the third was size 14 to represent the plus size. You enter your measurements and answer a few questions about your body shape and style. Its not a service I could use currently because they only feature sizes up to womans 24 but its a really cool tool to use just to see what type of clothes look good on your shape body. The feedback from the women on the news channel was very positive, one was certain the size 4 skirt they sent wouldn't fit but as we all know, sizes can vary from designer to designer and she was pleasantly surprised when the size 4 fit her. Its free to sign up for and they don't bombard you with emails like some companies.

So thats it for today! I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words yesterday about my photo. I was actually looking for a "before" photo from my highest weight but haven't found the photo I'm remembering. I don't think I've deleted, I just think its on one of my many back ups.

If you haven't taken a current photo, now is a great time to take one. If you haven't taken your measurements, go ahead and do that too! You don't have to share it with anyone if you don't want to but its a great tool.

I also wanted to mention a special event taking place this weekend...the beautiful and wonderful Honi is getting married this weekend. Please take a few minutes to send her good thoughts for a wonderful day full of precious memories.

Friday Favorites and other amusements

I thought I’d post a few of my favorite links today since I was going though and adding favorites to this laptop.

FITDAY
I’ve mentioned Fitday. It’s a great program to log your food and exercise intake. I’ll confess, I don’t log my exercise there, just my food. It allows you to add custom foods too so if you are like me and have the same brand of yogurt, bread or cereal quite often, you can store it as a custom food and have it handy for a quick add.

MAP MY RUN
Probably one of my favorite links is MapMyRun. I know it works for the USA, UK and Canada but I haven’t tried it for other parts of the world yet. You simply enter your postal/zip code and it will zoom in on that neighborhood. You then click your way around the neighborhood and it tracks the distance. One of the features that was really helpful to me is the hybrid feature. It allows you to view the streets by name and with a satellite image. I live in a neighborhood with lots of lakes and ponds and in the height of mosquito season I was able to map my walk through streets that didn’t touch the water.

CALORIE KING
CalorieKing is a great site I’ve found for finding the calories for restaturants and fast foods. Even when the restaurant doesn’t have the nutritional information listed (The Cheesecake Factory) I was able to find information here even for the harder to find places.

----------------------------------------

Last night when we went for our walk/jog I wore my typical t-shirt and sweat pants. By the time we got home I was freezing. I thought for sure my cold nose and ears were going to fall off. Well, maybe a bit of an exaggeration but I’m sure most of you have been that cold before in your lives. Out of curioristy I thought I’d check the thermostat and see what the temperature actually was I was certain it had dipped into the low 50’s if not the 40’s .It reads both Farenheit and Celcius and it was 68 degrees, that’s about 20 degrees in celcius for the 21% of you who come from places other than the States. In my defense to those of you who think that 68 isn’t cold, I live less than a mile from the Gulf of Mexico and it always feels cooler because of the seabreeze.

Ken: what is it? 40 something out there?

Me: no, its 68 degree

Ken: what? It can’t be right let me see , he pauses and says 68 …its 20 degrees and we are freezing? 20 degrees in the UK is warm

Me: uhuh, I told you everything was different here in the states

Ken: I better get the kettle on for a cuppa tea so we can warm up, should I put the heat on?

Me: No, we don't need the heat, we are trying to save electricity. They said it was going down to 50 tonight, should we get the big blanket out tonight?

Ken: oh hell yeah.
